New President for Union County Historical Society


    M. Lois Huffines was installed as President of the Board of the Union County Historical Society at the Society's annual dinner on November 15.
 
    Dr. Huffines recently retired from Bucknell University where she was Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs, Director of Graduate Studies and Professor of German and Linguistics.  She has a Ph.D. in Germanic Linguistics from Indiana University.   She is a researcher and lecturer on the English spoken by Pennsylvania Germans and its effects on the language of the surrounding communities, and on the Pennsylvania-German dialect spoken in both sectarian and non-sectarian Pennsylvania-German communities.  Dr. Huffines has served as a board member of the Pennsylvania German Society.  An active member of the Union County Historical Society, she is an editor of the Society’s Heritage books and chair of the Publications Committee, and past Secretary of the Board.  Dr. Huffines will head the Society for the next two years.
