LEWISBURG:  The 1793 Dale/Engle/Walker House will be open on Sundays 2-4PM through October, for guided tours of the first floor rooms and the original kitchen.  The tour focuses on architecture, slavery and the underground railroad, and the immigrant experience and includes interactive audio stations and the replicated 1804 Dale Library. The exhibit, "Textiles on the Farm," features selections from the collection of the Union County Historical Society augmented by items from private collections.
An exhibit of early farm implements is in the post-and-beam Wagon Shed built last August specifically to house some of the society's collection of farm machinery and tools.

     The newly published
Heritage Volume XXI: Samuel Dale (1741-1804); A Life and Estate in Union County - about the houses' original owner and the architecture of this limestone farmhouse - is available for purchase at the House during tour hours, as are other books on Union County history.  Books may also be purchased at the Society office in the county courthouse, and at Wagner's Stationery and Page After Page Bookstore in Lewisburg.
The limestone farm house, on a 137-acre active farm, is at the site of the Dale’s Ridge Trail off Route 192.  From Route 15 in Lewisburg take Route 192 for about 1.5 miles to Strawbridge Road, turn and drive 1.5 miles to the farm lane beside the trail parking lot.  Tours take about an hour with the last tour starting at 3:30.  Group tours are also offered with advance reservation - call the society office during business hours Monday-Friday at 524-8666 for more information).
